initiative of young graduates who want to bring about social transformation in
Tanzania by strengthening capacity of local communities and stakeholders in the
area of Peace, Conflict Transformation, Poverty Eradication and Community
Empowerment, and in addressing issues relating to Violent Extremism.
The idea of establishing an NGO to address issues of peace,
conflict resolution, violent extremism and poverty eradication was mooted out
by Moses Julius Muganga back in the year 2012 when he was a student of Kampala
International University (KIU)-Dar-Es-Salaam Campus. He noted out that since
2012 the country has been experiencing serious and organized crimes
unprecedented before such as killings of police officers at police posts and
check points/roadblocks and robbing firearms; bank robbery; highway robbery; as
well as house robbery. Having noted such dramatic increase in the level of
crimes, Moses Julius Muganga came up with an idea of an institution that could
contribute the government’s efforts in maintaining peace and security as well
as improving people’s livelihood.
Later, he decided to involve his fellow students and few lecturers
who bought in the idea. It was a team of 17 people. Thereafter, a series of
follow up consultative meetings were held on the agenda involving fellow
students, lecturers, lawyers from Good Governance
and Human Rights Commission he came up with organization’s title,
logo and constitution. Furthermore, the meeting outlined the NGO’s Strategic
Direction, Institutional Framework and Organizational and above all it elected
office bearers and resolved that Handeni as its headquarters.
In June, 2014 the draft constitution was finalized, and the AREPEB
was registered in December, 2014.
It was agreed that AREPEB will promote amongst its activities as
it strengthens the capacity of local communities and stakeholders through
activities such as Peace building, Conflict Transformation, Prevention of
Violent Extremism and Poverty Eradication.
AREPEB is therefore a result of a series of consultative processes
over a short period of time spearheaded and supported by a few inspired
individuals.
